Ahoy! Thar be Spring on the Horizon

Once upon a time, an eco-friendly denim line called Del Forte was faced with the question of what tops to photograph with their stylish organic cotton bottoms. Answer, with equally fashionable eco-friendly tops. That, my friend, is how Stewart+Brown and Del Forte ended up in the same boat for Del Forte’s Spring/Summer 2008 ad campaign. Styled by Element 23 and shot with the keen eye of Will Whipple at the Brighton Fishing Museum, these styles fare well together aboard the good ship Eco-frienly. Polluters; walk the plank.

Pucker Hoody // S/S Pointelle Tee

Like a second skin, our ultra-light organic cotton pointelle knits will have you second guessing why you’d wear anything else. This fine gauze fabric is knit with an openwork pattern that gives it a subtle rib, small diamond patterned openings and delicate texture. Dainty shell buttons, satin bows and lace trims give the collection an overall look that’s very sexy and feminine. And now that your body is feeling good your soul will feel even better knowing that your purchase is helping promote safe, organic farming practices. Organic cotton is grown without the aide of pesticides, herbicides and defoliants so it’s safer for the health of the soil, the farmers and you too.

Today’s sale pair forms the perfect spring ensemble. On top, the open v shell’s wide straps, v neck and long cut make it an easy piece that’s form flattering. Coming in prints and bright solids, this piece will be the pop all on it’s own or paired with an airy skirt. Which brings us to the organic cotton petal skirt. With a lustrous hemp silk lining layer peaking out from under a cotton chambray woven, this two textured wrapping beauty is sunshine ready.

Portland Bound

When we received the invite to headline “the most sustainable fashion show on the planet” we said “heck yah!” Just pack up the clothes, cameras, crew, and kid and we’re off to Portland…simple as that. Not one’s to let the rain get us down, we stayed at the recently opened Ace Hotel and had a blast; cruising around town, sipping amazing Stumptown Coffee, sifting through miles of books at Powell’s, and visiting two of our most favorite boutiques - Tumbleweed and Aubergine, which in our humble opinion also happen to be two of the best in the west.

Lacy Linen Knits now Available

Raglan Lace Dress // Linen Lace Cardigan

Lighten up with some lacy linen. The natural strength of the linen fiber enables us to use lots of intricate, open stitches that would make even the finest of your grandmothers doilies green with envy. And green they shall be, linen is a highly resilient fiber that thrives on very little water, is easy on the soil and it’s naturally resistant to pests. Since it’s easy to cultivate and make into usable fiber, linen has hardly an eco-footprint at all, not to mention every part of the plant is put to good use. This Spring’s linen knits are no exception, their ease on the earth is only rivaled by their ease on the eyes. With airy cardigans and sexy dresses, it’s easy to love linen as much as we do.

Behind the Spring ‘08 Photo Shoot

Here’s a sneak peak behind the scenes at our Spring 2008 photo shoot. The shoot was based here in Ventura and was shot by one of our favorite photographers Mike Piscitelli. Mike’s a multi-talented guy and serial entrepreneur who also owns his own clothing line and record label. We felt really lucky to get to work with Mike since he is now working primarily in film. He squeezed our shoot in right before heading to Africa to work on a film for HBO. You can check out his work at www.mikepiscitelli.com.

Please give a warm welcome to our brand new tencel gauze fabrication, now available in our e-store. Tencel is one of the greenest fibers around and here’s why, it’s made from the wood pulp of eucalyptus grown in managed forests (so as to avoid deforestation) so the fiber is biodegradable, naturally resilient to bacteria and will wick the moisture straight from your body leaving you cool, clean and dry.

The wavy stitch shawl is a sophisticated springtime cinch as it wraps you shoulders in soft cashmere and ties together at the shoulder. These styles like all of our cashmere styles are made entirely of 100% Mongolian Cashmere. Mongolian cashmere is far superior for a multitude of reasons. It helps sustain the traditions and lifestyle of Mongolian knitters and feels better than anything else on the market.
