NAU features S+B in Soho

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

If you’re close to New York City between now and December 31 be sure to check out the NAU (pronounced “now”) pop-up shop in Soho formally named HERE / NAU / NYC. The fine folks at NAU built out there incredible space using materials that were “almost entirely rooted in New York City’s waste stream— fallen tree limbs found on the street, timber and metal pipes from derelict Brooklyn factories and piles of discarded cardboard boxes.” Part store, part gallery, part event space, and with plenty of room for all things unpredictable, HERE / NAU / NYC’s about sharing an approach to sustainable business and considered design in an unforgettable way. A showcase for NAU’s modern eco-friendly design vision, the pop-up shop is peppered with a carefully edited selection of their favorite sustainable and socially responsible complimentary brands including STEWART+BROWN, Tom’s and Freitag.

Juniper in Seattle, Washington (Madrona to be exact) offers the promise of timeless looks as well as a chance to meet a new kitten. Shop owner Lisa Clinton believes that less is more and styles the shop with a hip, minimalistic touch. When asked to describe her store, Lisa says, “Juniper offers a carefully selected mix of items in the shop. Mostly clothing with a few homewares and a little jewelry. The focus is on quality over quantity and I prefer to offer fewer items to make it easy to see each piece and appreciate the fabric, design and construction. I am drawn to designers who are conscious of the whole process of their design. The beauty of design includes all aspects of it: who is making it, how it is made and the longevity both in construction and style.”
