ArtForDorks.com is the brainchild of Stewart+Brown staffer, Laura Devendorf and features an off-beat amalgamation of drawings, stories and a helpful does of dork-savvy trivia to those who seek it. Most of the drawings are based on real-life encounters taking place in and around Santa Barbara (after work hours of course) and are elaborated upon with ramblings about the simpler pleasures one finds in the throws of day to day life. Check out her site, embrace your inner nerd and see all the drawings.

Take a big group of fashionistas and sprinkle in some politicians and reporters and you’ll get something a lot like FutureFashionLA, an event sponsored by the CFDA and Designers & Agents held at LA Mayor Antionio Villaraigosa’s official residence. The event focused on environmental design and showcased designers like Debra Linquist, Erica Tanov, Imitation of Christ, Rozae Nichols, Trina Turk and Trovata who each made custom looks with materials donated by Earth Pledge. Check out Stewart+Brown’s yak down shrug and mittens displayed along with a hemp silk smock dress. Hold your horses though, these styles are just a sneak peak at what our Fall collection will have to offer.

GLiving’s Room 101 is where eco-notables go to lay down the line and speak candidly about their stance on the environment and what they’re doing to change it. Check out this interview with Stewart+Brown co-founder Howard Brown, to hear more about the motivations to create an entirely green brand and how it progressed from their garage to the forefront of something much much bigger.

When ThinkProducts gave us the very Project Runway-ish task of making an entire dress our of their candy wrappers to auction to raise breast cancer research funds, we gladly accepted the challenge. They also invited Stewart+Brown along with other eco-industry big-wigs to take part in their most recent undertaking to benefit breast cancer organization Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Check out the full story to see shots from the show, clips from the ad campaign and our very own candy wrapper dress.

Ahoy! Thar be Spring on the Horizon

Once upon a time, an eco-friendly denim line called Del Forte was faced with the question of what tops to photograph with their stylish organic cotton bottoms. Answer, with equally fashionable eco-friendly tops. That, my friend, is how Stewart+Brown and Del Forte ended up in the same boat for Del Forte’s Spring/Summer 2008 ad campaign. Styled by Element 23 and shot with the keen eye of Will Whipple at the Brighton Fishing Museum, these styles fare well together aboard the good ship Eco-frienly. Polluters; walk the plank.

Portland Bound

When we received the invite to headline “the most sustainable fashion show on the planet” we said “heck yah!” Just pack up the clothes, cameras, crew, and kid and we’re off to Portland…simple as that. Not one’s to let the rain get us down, we stayed at the recently opened Ace Hotel and had a blast; cruising around town, sipping amazing Stumptown Coffee, sifting through miles of books at Powell’s, and visiting two of our most favorite boutiques - Tumbleweed and Aubergine, which in our humble opinion also happen to be two of the best in the west.

Behind the Spring ‘08 Photo Shoot

Here’s a sneak peak behind the scenes at our Spring 2008 photo shoot. The shoot was based here in Ventura and was shot by one of our favorite photographers Mike Piscitelli. Mike’s a multi-talented guy and serial entrepreneur who also owns his own clothing line and record label. We felt really lucky to get to work with Mike since he is now working primarily in film. He squeezed our shoot in right before heading to Africa to work on a film for HBO. You can check out his work at www.mikepiscitelli.com.

The holidays have come and gone but not without a few photos. Travel from sea to shining sea with us in a photo montage featuring pics from the far reaches of rural Vermont, South to sunny Florida, across to glitzy glittering Hollywood, North to San Francisco and back to our very own Santa Barbara. Needless to say it was a very happening holiday.
