Combine the energy of high school girls with the wisdom and direction of consumer safety advocate advocate Judi Shills and voila, you get Teens Turning Green. This rapidly growing network of teens is doing its part to educate the community and has been featured in magazines like Teen Vogue and Seventeen. Their first order of business; make prom night green. When they asked us to help by designing some custom green prom looks, we were more than happy to heed the call. 4thheader

We’re Sarah and Kidada, new interns at Stewart+Brown and old friends pre-Stewart+Brown. Last weekend we were given the assignment to catalog our fourth of July for this newsletter so we decided make a trip out to a little town east of Ventura called Ojai, enjoy the scenery along the way and end the day with family, friends and fireworks. Check it out!

On The Road…Hybrid Style

Thursday, June 4th, 2009

The seeds for a hybrid road trip were planted when Karen and I were invited to spend Earth Day this year at Toyota’s North American headquarters in Torrance, CA. Toyota, hybrid-early adopters with their ever-so-popular Prius, also owns the Lexus brand which has its own line of luxury hybrid vehicles. Stewart+Brown is a partner of Lexus Hybrid Living and has teamed up with the brand for several marketing events over the last few years so when it came up that we were taking to the road in a few weeks for a trunk show at the fabulous eco-luxury boutique Eco Citizen in San Francisco our friends at Lexus offered to let us test drive one of their Hybrids and let them know what we thought about it. A no-brainer, right? For those of you that haven’t experienced a hybrid, they are a BLAST to drive! Especially the Lexus 450RX hybrid SUV that they generously loaned us for our road trip. It was our 15 month old son Huxley’s first road trip and an amazing trip for the whole family.

Summer Studio Sale!

Friday, May 29th, 2009

It’s the most wonderful time of the year once again, and no, I don’t mean Christmas. It’s time for our Summer Studio Sale!

All of our Studio Sales are can’t miss events and this is no exception. As per usual, there will be tons of green looks to score for a lot less green and you can take your pick from our summer styles and colors in addition to shopping our spring collections. Donna from Betty Belts with her collection of ethical accessories on both Thursday and Saturday and pastry chef Henry Ramos will be baking up some sweet treats for Saturday. We’ll have a different selection of goods on both days so if you want the best shot at everything, it’s best to come both days. Come early for the best scores and snacks and bring the kids so that Karen and Howard’s little ones can have some fun too.

Summer Studio Sale
Thursday June 4 : 4pm – 7pm
Saturday June 6 : 12pm – 5pm

Here’s an idea! If you’re in LA, make a day of it! Cruise Hwy 1 to the 101, stop by the sale and spend the rest of the day at the beach. It’ll be worth it and we’d love to meet you!

Show a Green Businesswoman Some Love!

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

Betty Belts owner Donna von Hoesslin is a class A sweetheart whom I often mistakenly call Betty. I’d feel worse about mistaking her name if I didn’t find the Betty so fitting of her personality: she’s a businesswoman surfer chick, inspiration and sponsor to other surfer chicks and a green girl through and through. Right now she’s a finalist to win the Intuit Small Business United $25,000 business grant that she needs to keep Betty Belts thriving. We’re all trying to help her out and you can too by voting for her video right here. You can vote from now until Saturday for her funny, inspiring and useful video in three categories: funny, useful and/or inspiring (you get three votes)! It’s worth a watch and your vote would go a long way in supporting a local green business woman with a heart of gold and a vintage bus full of surfboards. Betty/Donna will also be at our Studio Sale on June 4th and 6th with her collection of ethical jewelry and accessories which she travels the globe to collect and you can check out her entire collection at bettybelts.com.
