1/2 Sleeve Henley // Judith Button T Neck // Long Sleeve Lengthen Tee

A colorful story of layer love, by Art Director, Paris Miller and our newest Photo Wizard, Torrey Simonsen.

At Stewart+Brown we love color and we love layers. Although the gray skies of Autumn are upon us, we see the stormy days as the perfect backdrop to showcase our stunning hues “Stewart+Brown style.” This means we are going to get you all layered up and looking amazing. What better way to beat the gray “blues” then snuggled in silky soft layers of pima and looking radiant in the seasons most sensational and sophisticated colors? We put together three autumn color stories to inspire you to step out in color this fall – because color makes us smile and we think it will make you smile too!

Autumn 2009 – Staff Picks

Shown:
Fleur Tie Tunic // Claribel Drape Dress

There’s an odd moment at the beginning of each season when the new samples return from their respective showrooms and the employees of Stewart+Brown slip into an every-girl-for-herself mentality, descending upon the samples with gleaming eyes and grabbing hands. Okay, it’s not that bad, but we do go into a bit of a frenzy about getting first dibs on the new Fall product and here’s what we picked. In keeping with Fall’s theatrical “Re-Capture” theme, you’ll find each fall pick taking center stage amidst a variety of bucolic fall back-drops.

Greetings From Summer

Thursday, June 4th, 2009

Shown:
Gathered Slip Dress

It may not be summer proper but it’s getting pretty darn close and the idea of days spent in the sun, enjoying the scenery is just a little too intoxicating to ignore. I decided to indulge my ideas of a fantasy summer in the best way possible: with post cards from some of the most beautiful places in the world. Take a look at some of our favorite dresses in colors you haven’t seen yet writing love notes to a mysterious someone. Maybe this story will inspire you to take a trip, even if it’s only imaginary, and pair each destination with the perfect Stewart+Brown dress

Staff Favorites – Now with Haiku!

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

Shown:
Mongolian Cashmere Tie Drape Shrug

This edition of staff favorite looks are as pretty as a word picture now that each look comes with its very own haiku. Now, I want to set the record straight that we at Stewart+Brown are no scholars of ancient forms of poetry so please go easy on us when it comes to haiku specifics. Other than that, they’re pretty fun. Our intern Emily chose the style above stating, “I am in-love with this eye-catching unique and feminine style. I love how you can dress it up or down and that it is the perfect layering piece for spring and all-year-round. This is a piece that will last forever and always compliment any outfit!” Check out the full story to see what each employee’s favorite style is this Spring.

Crepe Cotton Bouquets

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009

Shown:
Cross Over Petal Dress // Petal Placket Polo // Petal Neck Tee

We’re happy to announce the arrival of 100% organic crepe cotton into our e-store just in time for Spring Break and Easter Weekend. (Cue the harp playing a whimsy melody) I imagine these feminine dresses and tees playfully twirling upon a breeze scented with jasmine and lavender. If you think that was poetic, just wait until you see these styles! They’re all made from 100% organic pima cotton knitted with a crepe stitch giving them their signature brushed texture. If the spring collection were a spring bouquet here’s what I see each style representing:

Tulips – Cross Over Petal Dress (shown above) – With scooping petal details around the neck and a double layered body, this piece is delicate but no less playful. The body is clean with a tie around the waist and it’s lined with pima cotton which peaks out of the bottom

Daffodils – Cascade Tank Dress – This number is fun and cleverly ruffled with eye-cathing embroidery along the neckline. It’s lined with our printed pima cotton so you’ll see a bit of our monarch butterfly hovering below the bottom hem.

Snap Dragons – Long Dress – This long and lean look is accented with contrast merrow hems that bloom through the body. The tank straps are joined in back with a cute tie adding the final bit of snap to this already snappy look.

Primrose – Petal Neck Tee (shown above) – This tee is sweet, delicate and dainty with ruffles straight across the neckline. And there’s more! Just behind the neck there is an eyelet opening that closes with a tie that’s cute as can be. And, if your feeling floral, you can get it in our light pink “primrose” color!

Iris – Petal Placket Polo (shown above) – This little polo gets a bit of petal with cute and clever ruffles down the placket. The placket and the sleeve cuffs are accented with subtly contrasted piping and two delicate shell buttons at the center chest finish it off with a fine touch.

So get down with your transcendental self and arrange your own spring bouquet at our website!

Spring Studio Sale

Thursday, March 19th, 2009

As spring breezes in we’re gearing up to give great deals on our Spring samples and seconds. Here’s a little backgound, every season we make at least 10 sets of samples that go to press, showrooms and other events. Not all of those styles are produced so many of the items at our sale are limited to about 10 pieces and still cuter than can be. A second describes any of the products that aren’t sellable because of a small hole here or a twisted strap there. The sale will also host Betty’s Belts. Ventura-based Betty Belts will be bringing their beautiful natural jewelry, belts and bags. Owner and designer Donna von Hoesslin will bring her secret stash of samples from Bali with many one-offs as well as irregulars and closeouts deeply discounted to as much as 80% off! For the best scores, come early (this also applies to the snacks!) Here’s the info:

Spring 2009 and Everyday Inspiration

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

Shown:
Wing Tee

The Spring 2009 collection is all about finding inspiration in the things that already surround you like a backyard garden, community park or local library. For this story we took pictures of things around our office and combined them with styles from the new Spring collection to show how easy it is to find art wherever you look. The image shown here features our wing tee, the view from our skylight and a binder I found in Karen’s office, check out the rest of ‘em.

How We Wear Our Lengthened Tees

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

The lengthened tee is to Stewart+Brown as water is to the ocean. That may be a bit grandiose but it makes the point that the lengthened tee is our best selling product ever and for good reason. It’s cozy as can be, long, luxurious and looks great on every body type. I had each Stewart+Browner bring in their own lengthened tee and put together an outfit they’d wear it with. We all have our own sense of style so it was fun and interesting to document how everyone wore theirs. Check it out.
